Academic literacy, from first draft to first DOI
Helping students write like academics
Alekhni teaches high school students how to read, research, and write the way scholars do, and helps them publish pre-prints and original work before they ever set foot on a university campus.
Why Alekhni
Most students never learn academic writing in time
Reading scholarly sources, asking answerable research questions, and writing it up with evidence aren't taught early enough, yet most presitigious university admissions are based on these skills, and many students feel that academic reading and writing courses at the university are being rushed and can't produce novel research as part of their theses. Many other universities, especially in the Global South, don't even expect students to write a thesis, which leads to a global research divide. Alekhni closes that gap, while building genuine confidence in the students. We ought to create independent learners and researchers out of the young minds.
Our four milestones
The month-long program
An intensive crash course in academic reading and writing, compressed into one focused month.
See the program →Write&Cite
A gamified rich text editor with Zotero integration, tracked changes, and prompts that ask students to explain every edit.
Explore Write&Cite →The Student Journal
A peer-reviewed-style journal, for high schoolers only, that assigns a DOI to the best original research, and exposes young learners to the peer-reviewed academia early on.
Explore the Journal →Applications & Research Guidance
One-on-one guidance that helps students shape their research into strong university applications and outreach to labs.
See how we help →Resources for the curious and the self-taught
Curriculums for educators, self-learners, and homeschoolers.
